Dongtian Park, also known as Taoist Fairyland Park, is one of the oldest and most popular scenic spots on Hainan Island. EDG was engaged to reposition the park and resort for the 21stcentury and rebrand it as an international tourism destination.
By focusing on the myths and legends of Taoist Culture, EDG was able to design a culturally responsible and sustainable 1160 acres (472 ha) resort park.
The project consists of five major urban zones – The Arrival and Access Corridor, Cultural Industry Zone, Gate Scenery Zone, The Taoist Longevity Path, and the Waterfront. They begin at the north end of the site and wind down to the tropical beach below within the formal outline of a Chinese dragon tail. United by an eco-friendly monorail – the Fairyland Bridge – that weaves above the lavish natural landscape, each of these urban components is home to a diverse array of entertaining and leisurely activities including an aerial balloon tour, the Flower Garden Maze, the Earth Sky Spa, a 5-Star resort hotel, and the innovative mangrove island – a man-made island resort that was designed in the shape of the ancient yin-yang symbol.
