Nestled in the shadow of Shanghai is a local city of roughly 800,000 residents known as Dongyang. Currently it is home to a series of locally focused entertainment venues, which included one prominent underutilized local mall. Here, EDG was engaged to repurpose the mall in order to revitalize its facilities, and draw new repeat visitations from local and regional visitors.
Drawing upon the already successful brand identity of Zoland Animation, EDG created a series of detailed theme park facilities that utilized the animation company’s existing characters and storylines to form a dynamic new themed entertainment experience. This included the concept and schematic design of indoor and outdoor themed entertainment areas such as The Winter Wonderland, Summer Sizzle, and the Night Time Spectacular. Within the mall itself, a series of structural renovations were proposed including the removal and re-placement of several columns to create more engaging and exciting entertainment facilities such as the 3 story Cartoon Climber Challenge and the Dreamtown Theater.
In the end, by merging indoor and outdoor experience, the Zoland Magic World at Dongyang is able to leverage its size, location, and brand to become one China’s next great regional theme park attractions.
